It’s been a minute since I last posted. Not because I was too distracted – even though I have a number of self-inflicted projects going on right now – but because events, policies, politics, and information is changing so quickly that by the time I prepare to write about the last three newsworthy changes, five more have landed on my plate.
Over the past few weeks when something happens within California, I ask myself, what would I do? and then, in the moments I sit down to write, Governor Newsom has already done what I would have done.
It is definitely an interesting time to think about running for a major political office, that’s for sure.
The 4th of July holiday was this past weekend. It didn’t feel like the right thing to do to celebrate. It was more of a day to recognize what we’ve lost this year. This year the 4th was a day to contemplate how we are going to deflect and move forward. My neighborhood was fairly quiet and no one invited me to the cookout – because there weren’t any.
Climate Change unexpectedly reared it’s head in Texas this weekend too, while our President played golf in Florida. The videos coming out of southern Texas are heartbreaking. It makes me wonder, what fresh hells does California need to prepare for, besides the ones we already know about?
ICE is still running rampant, and masked, like vigilante thugs in the wild wild west. There is a concentration camp opening this week in Florida and other red states have followed suit with requests to open camps.
All in all and despite everything that has been happening, I still feel that California is the best state to be in. If for no other reason than that the President hates us so much. That alone gives us permission to stand our ground and fight back.
